ICW Global Speak Up

February 2018

Nothing For Us Without Us

The International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW) is excited to welcome Laura Wangeci Thuo as our new Communications Assistant. Laura will start in her new position with the ICW Global Office on 1st March, 2018 and will be based in the Nairobi office.

She will work collaboratively with the team and the members of ICW’s Chapter of Young Women and Adolescent girls (CYWAG) in ensuring their action and advocacy is visible in events leading up to the AIDS 2018 conference and beyond.

Laura Wangeci Thuo is 22 years and a passionate young advocate for inclusion of adolescents and young people in decision making platforms for responsive HIV programming for young people in Kenya. She strongly believes in gender inclusivity and women empowerment in every aspect, especially for the current adolescent girl and young woman whose voice may often not be heard loud and clear

Prior to starting her new position with ICW Laura has been engaged various communications and advocacy work under the ‘Sauti Skika’ national initiative for adolescents and young people and most currently with ‘Maisha youth’ an initiative of the National AIDS Control Council (NACC). She has advocated for the inclusion of adolescent girls and young women in prevention interventions within the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria where she sat in the Funding request secretariat representing adolescent girls and young women.

Laura holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication, with a major in Electronic Media from Daystar University, in Nairobi, Kenya. She also has an interest in art and photography.

We are thrilled to welcome such an enthusiastic advocate as Laura Thuo and look forward to working together to continue to serve and promote our community.

You can help us amplify our impact and improve the lives of women and girls living with HIV
