High Level Meeting on AIDS 2016: A Call to Women Living with HIV to Get Involved

The United Nations (UN High Level Meeting on AIDS (HLM) will take place on June 8–10, 2016 in New York City. The HLM aims to “undertake a comprehensive review of the progress achieved in realizing the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declarations on HIV/AIDS.” This important global convening will bring civil society organizations, people living with HIV, governments, and decision-makers together to renew the commitment and engagement of global leaders to accelerate a comprehensive universal and integrated response to HIV.

In preparation for the HLM, an interactive Civil Society Hearing (CSH) will occur on April 6, 2016 in New York to ensure input of civil society, including women living with HIV. Marama Pala, acting ICW Chair is also chairing the Civil Society Task Force leading the preparations for the upcoming CSH. ICW encourages our members to follow the outcomes of the CSH and connect with and influencing their government delegations on priority areas for the HLM.

The HLM will build on the dialogue at the CSH, and will result in a critical outcome document which will build on the Declaration of Commitment and Political Declarations on HIV/AIDS and will guide and monitor the HIV and AIDS response towards achieving the commitment of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 and realizing the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The perspectives and insights of women living with HIV are critical to the success and relevance of the HLM! Here is how you can get involved.
